1. Paika rebellion: Not the first War of Independence

  1. The Centre through a written reply in the Rajya Sabha said the Paika rebellion cannot be called the first War of Independence.
  2. Since 2017, Odisha has demanded that the rebellion of Odisha be declared as the first war of Independence.
  3. At present, the Indian Mutiny or Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 is called the first war of Independence against British Rule.

2. ZyCov – D

  1. ZyCov – D is the second indigenous vaccine next to COVAXIN.
  2. The unique feature of ZyCov – D is that it is a needleless vaccine. At first, the ZyCov – D vaccine is to be launched in seven states. They are Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Punjab, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh
  3. The vaccine is to be administered only to persons in the age group of 12 to 19 years.
  4. The ZyCov – D is administered using a needle-free applicator.
  5. It is a three-dose vaccine. It is taken on the 28th day and 56th day of the first dose.

3. Facial Recognition in Airports

  1. Four airports in India will have facial recognition tech by March next year
  2. It is important to note that data shared by passengers is to be retained during the transit of the passenger at the airport and will not be retained for more than 24 hours after the take-off/departure of the flight.
  3. FRT has not yet been introduced at any of the airports in India. However, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is working on a project of FRT-based Biometric Boarding System as part of the first phase of Digi Yatra Implementation at four Airports (Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata, and Vijayawada).

4. GJ 367b

  1. Scientists confirmed the ultra-short period feature of planet GJ 367b after they noted a dip in the light emerging from the red dwarf the exoplanet is orbiting.
  2. Owing to its closeness to the red dwarf, planet GJ 367b endures extreme temperatures on its surface despite the star being small and dim.
  3. The surface temperature on this exoplanet reaches a massive 1,500 degrees Celsius (2,732 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and creates an environment that can melt even the metals.
  4. Although the origin of this planet is unknown, findings suggest that 86% of the planet’s interior is heavily rich in iron.

5. Worldwide Cost of Living 2021

  1. The Worldwide Cost of Living is a twice-yearly survey conducted by EIU that compares more than 400 individual prices across 200 products and services in 173 cities.
  2. Israel’s Tel Aviv has leapfrogged Hong Kong and Singapore to become the world’s most expensive city to live in, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
  3. The Israeli city climbed from fifth place last year to top the Worldwide Cost of Living 2021 report for the first time, pushing Paris down to the joint second place with Singapore.
  4. Zurich and Hong Kong rounded out the top five.

6. Lionel Messi

  1. Lionel Messi won the men’s Ballon d’Or for a record-extending seventh time during the 65th Ballon d’Or ceremony at Theatre du Chatelet, in Paris.
  2. Alexia Putellas became the third winner of the women’s award for an outstanding season with Barcelona and Spain.

7. Pinak Chakraborty

  1. Airtel Payments Bank has appointed Pinak Chakraborty as its new Chief Information Officer.
  2. He will be leading Airtel Payments Bank’s overall technology strategy & be responsible for digital innovation and transformation of products and services.
  3. Prior to joining the Bank, he was heading product engineering for PayMaya, a fintech based out of the Philippines.
