1. Mihidana

2. Minimum Threshold Parameters

The Department of Food and Public Distribution’s recently developed application ecosystem will allow the integration of all state governments’ procurement portals having Minimum Threshold Parameters (MTPs) for monitoring and strategic decision making.

  1. The introduction of Minimum Threshold Parameters (MTPs) in procurement operations are necessitated to avoid middlemen in procurement and ensure that farmers get the best value for their produce.
  2. The move is expected to expedite the reconciliation of procurement figures with states and the release of funds by the central government to the states.
  3. These include online registration of farmers and sharecroppers with all relevant details, integration of registered farmers’ data with states’ land record portal, and online payment through Expenditure Advance Transfer (EAT) module

3. State of Climate Services

  1. Terrestrial water storage (TWS) dropped at a rate of 1 cm per year in 20 years (2002-2021), according to a new report 2021 State of Climate Services released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
  2. The biggest losses have occurred in Antarctica and Greenland.
  3. But many highly populated, lower latitude locations have also experienced TWS losses
  4. In India, TWS has been lost at a rate of at least 3 cm per year.
  5. India has recorded the highest loss in terrestrial water storage if the loss of water storage in Antarctica and Greenland is excluded.
  6. India is, therefore, the topmost hotspot of TWS loss.
  7. The northern part of India has experienced the maximum loss within the country

4. High Ambition Coalition

India officially joined the High Ambition Coalition (HAC) for Nature and People, a group of more than 70 countries encouraging the adoption of a global goal to protect at least 30 percent the of world’s land and ocean by 2030 (30 x 30).


  1. HAC members currently include a mix of countries in the global north and south, European, Latin American, African and Asian countries.
  2. India is the first member of the BRICS bloc to join the HAC.
  3. India’s announcement comes in the lead up to a high-level biodiversity meeting, hosted by China.
  4. The global 30×30 goal is currently a centerpiece of the treaty.

  1. 30×30 is a bold plan that will help slow the alarming loss of nature, fight the global climate crisis, and filter out pollution so that we can breathe clean air and drink clean water.
  2. It will also ensure that all Americans — no matter their economic status, race, or ethnicity — have access to nature and open space.

5. Indian Space Association

  1. It is an industry body aspiring to be the voice of the Indian space sector
  2. The ISpA will undertake policy advocacy and engage with all stakeholders in the Indian space domain, including the government and its agencies.
  3. The ISpA will help in making India self-reliant, technologically advanced, and a leading player in the space arena.
  4. The ISpA is represented by leading homegrown and global corporations with advanced capabilities in space and satellite technologies.
  5. Its founding members include Larson & Toubro, Nelco (Tata Group), OneWeb, Bharti Airtel, Mapmyindia, Walchandnagar Industries, and Ananth Technology Limited.

6. SC120- LOX

  1. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has delivered the heaviest semi-cryogenic propellant tank (SC120- LOX) ever fabricated to the Indian Space Research Organization (Isro).
  2. The tank will be used in the Mk-III launch vehicle for future missions.
  3. The semi-cryo-liquid oxygen (LOX) tank the first developmental welded hardware is a part of the SC120 stage intended for payload enhancement by replacing the L110 stage in the existing Mk-III launch vehicle.
  4. HAL has supported ISRO with the developmental phase of the Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment, PAD abort test for crew escape for human space the mission.

7. Javan gibbon

Indonesian officials and researchers are working to preserve a small pocket of forest on the heavily populated island of Java as the habitat of the Javan gibbon, which they say is endangered by climate change and human encroachment.


  1. Also known as the silvery gibbon, the primate is unique to central and western Java, where it plays a role in regenerating forest vegetation by dispersing seeds.
  2. Local conservation group SwaraOwa is tracking a population of about 400 gibbons living in a 73-kilometer reserve in Petungkriyono Forest in central Java.
  3. The real threat now is the integrity of the forest itself because of the increasing number of human activities.
  4. SwaraOwa and the government hold outreach programs with the local community every month and have installed signage prohibiting hunting and illegal logging in the forest.

8. Ajeya Warrior

  1. India and the UK kickstarted a two-week military exercise at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand
  2. The 6th edition of the Ajeya Warrior exercise is part of an initiative to develop interoperability and sharing of expertise with friendly foreign nations.
  3. It aims in sharing their experiences gained during the conduct of various military operations in their respective countries and during the overseas engagement.

9. G-20 conference

13th Annual International G-20 conference was held on October 6, 2021


  1. India is working for identifying the vacuum areas in international policy coordination, in the backdrop of assuming the G20 presidency in 2023.
  2. India is also working for strengthening the effectiveness of institutions such as FATF (Financial Action Task Force)and IMF (International Monetary Fund).
  3. G20 presidency will provide an excellent platform for India for putting forward its vision regarding the future reflecting sustainability, innovation, inclusiveness, and justice.
  4. Road to India’s 2023 presidency is interesting and challenging.
  5. Emerging market economies will hold the presidency for the G20 presidency till 2025.
  6. Indonesia will hold it in 2022 while India in 2023.

10. World Cotton Day

  1. The globe marks World Cotton Day on October 7th every year since 2019.
  2. The purpose of the international day is to maximize the importance of cotton, which ranges from its attributes as a natural fiber to the benefits people gain from its production, transformation, commerce, and consumption.
  3. World Cotton Day also strives to emphasize the problems that the world’s cotton economies experience, as cotton is important for the world’s least developed, emerging, and developed economies.

11. Nobel Prize in Literature

The 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”.


  1. Abdulrazak Gurnah has published ten novels and a number of short stories.
  2. The theme of the refugee’s disruption runs throughout his work.
  3. He began writing as a 21-year-old in English exile, and although Swahili was his first language, English became his literary tool.
  4. Gurnah’s fourth novel ‘Paradise’ (1994), his breakthrough as a writer, evolved from a research trip to East Africa around 1990.
  5. At a time when the global refugee crisis is exponentially on the rise, Gurnah’s work draws attention to how racism and prejudice against targeted communities and religions perpetuate cultures of oppression.
