  1. The Centre has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat for the upcoming rabi season to 2,015 per quintal, a 2% hike from the 1,975 per quintal rate of last year.
  2. Oilseeds and pulses such as mustard, safflower, and masoor dal saw higher MSP increases of up to 8% in a bid to encourage crop diversification
  3. MSP is the Minimum Price at which the Government will buy the produce from farmers.
  4. Announced by the Government of India at the beginning of the sowing season for certain crops based on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Prices(CACP)

Govt appoints 10 merchant bankers for managing LIC IPO

  1. The government has appointed 10 merchant bankers including Goldman Sachs (India) Securities, Citigroup Global Markets India, and Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities India to manage the mega initial public offering of country’s largest insurer LIC.
  2. Other selected bankers include SBI Capital Market, JM Financial, Axis Capital, BofA Securities, JP Morgan India, ICICI Securities, and Kotak Mahindra Capital Co Ltd

Microsoft and OYO

  1. Microsoft and OYO have announced a multi-year strategic partnership to co-develop next-gen travel and hospitality products and technologies.
  2. The duo plan to develop solutions using Microsoft’s cloud and AI capabilities that will be geared to benefit clients who operate the small and medium hotel and home storefronts across the world.

BRICS summit

  1. The 13th BRICS summit held virtually called for an “inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue” for stability in Afghanistan.
  2. The virtual summit, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was dominated by the developments in Afghanistan and adopted the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan.
  3. BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan was adopted
  4. A new agreement on Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation between our space agencies was signed.
  5. The document titled the ‘New Delhi Declaration also called for addressing the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and urged the need to uphold the rights of women, children, and minorities.

G 20 Health Ministers Meeting

  1. The Health Ministers from G20 countries, including India, have united to pledge global action to improve future health security, increase vaccine confidence and tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in a Health Declaration agreed in Rome.
  2. The G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting was convened in  Italy
  3. It focussed on building on strong cooperation and collaboration to end the COVID-19 pandemic and support recovery around the world.
  4. A health declaration to tackle COVID was agreed

Sri Lanka asks to delay Pregnancy

  1. Sri Lankan women were urged to delay getting pregnant after more than 40 expectant mothers died of COVID-19 in four months.
  2. The island nation, which recorded its first maternal coronavirus death in May, is battling a spike in Delta variant infections after travel restrictions were eased for local new year celebrations in mid-April.
