KYC-VS

  1. The Health Ministry has launched a new Application Programming Interface (API), through its web portal Co-WIN, called ‘Know Your Customer’s/Client’s Vaccination Status’ (KYC-VS).
  2. KYC-VS will enable a verifying entity to know whether a person has been vaccinated against coronavirus or not.
  3. It is both consent-based and privacy-preserving.
  4. A webpage with the API, which may be embedded in any system which will allow for seamless integration with any system.
  5. This service may be utilized by any service provider, private or public, for whom verifying an individual’s vaccination status is critical for facilitating a service requested.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen

  1. Swachh Survekshan Grameen, 2021 will be launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission Phase- 2  on 9th September 2021.
  2. It is launched as a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’
  3. Swachh Survekshan Grameen aims to support the acceleration of ODF plus interventions and results in the country.
  4. An expert agency has been hired to conduct the Survekshan 2021.
  5. The weights to different elements of the SSG 2021 are as below:
    • Direct Observation of sanitation at public places -30%
    • Citizen’s Feedback, including feedback from common citizens, key influencers at the village level, and from citizens online using a mobile App -35%
    • Service Level Progress on sanitation-related parameters -35%
  1. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras was ranked the best higher education institution in the country for the third year in a row y.
  2. IITs dominated the overall rankings, with seven of the top 10 positions.
  3. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru ranked second, followed by IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur
  4. Among universities, IISc was ranked one.
  5. For management institutions, the Indian Institute of Management (IIT)-Ahmedabad was ranked one, followed by IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Calcutta.
  6. Jamia Hamdard was ranked one for pharmacy
  7. All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi scored the top rank for medical institutions
  8. IISc was ranked the best research institution, a category included for the first time

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)

  1. The Scheme has been initiated with the vision to empower at least one person per household with crucial digital literacy skills by 2020.
  2. PMGDISHA is an effort to complement the government’s vision to transform one from each household as digitally literate.
  3. The project aims at helping adults with low technological literacy develop the skills they need to interact in an increasingly digital world.
    The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan is a dynamic and integrated platform of digital literacy awareness, education and capacity programs that will help rural communities fully participate in the global digital economy.

Rainfall in August recorded 24% deficiency

  1. Two major spells of weak monsoon prevailed over the country — from August 9-16 and August 23-27 — when northwest, central, and adjoining peninsular and west coast of India had subdued rainfall activities.
  2. Rainfall over the country as a whole was below Long Period Average (LPA) by minus 24 percent.
  3. It is also the lowest August rainfall in the last 12 years after 2009.
  4. August 2021 deficiency was lowest in last 19 years, since 2002.
  5. The Southwest Monsoon season officially commences from June 1 and lasts till September 30.
  6. The month of June recorded 10% more rainfall, but both July and August clocked deficiency of 7 and 24% respectively, according to the IMD data.
  7. The country received 24% less than normal rainfall in August.
  8. Of the four meteorological divisions of the IMD, the central India division received 39% less rainfall.
  9. The division consists of a large swathe of areas from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
  10. The deficiency in the northwest India division, which comprises northern Indian states, was 30%.
  11. The deficiency was 10% t in the south peninsula whereas the east and northeast division received two percent more rainfall than the normal.

Hydrotherapy in Ladakh

  1. The Army and the Ladakh Hill Development Council (LAHDC) jointly restarted the traditional medicinal hydrotherapy in the immediate vicinity of the hot spring in Ladakh’s Demchok sector.
  2. The hot spring in Demchok has healing properties and offers great help in dealing with health issues related to migraines, backache, joint pain, gastric issues, skin diseases, blood pressure, and ENT.
  3. Traditionally, the hot spring hydrotherapy is expected to be undertaken till October end.

GC Murmu appointed as new CAG

Girish Chandra Murmu, who resigned from his post of Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night, has been appointed as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He replaces Rajiv Mehrishi.
