National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm

Union Cabinet cleared the Rs 11,040-crore National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) with a focus on growing the crop in the northeast and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands due to their favorable rainfall and temperature.

Ministry of  Electronics and Information Technology launched the ‘Amrit Mahotsav Shri Shakti Challenge-2021’ to encourage technology solutions developed by Women Entrepreneurs that facilitate Women’s Safety and Empowerment.


  1. The state government has also announced a COVID relief package where drivers and helpers of privately operated buses will get one-time relief of Rs 10,000.
  2. The priests of the temple and head of Namghars (Vaishnavite place of worship) will get Rs 15,000 each.

World Mosquito Day is observed: August  20

  1. The relevance of celebrating World Mosquito Day, an event that commemorates the discovery of mosquitoes spreading disease among humans.
  2. Mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya are still prevalent in most parts of the country because of poor hygiene, rapid urbanization, and improper wastewater management, to name a few.
  3. The year 2021’s theme for World Mosquito Day has been to reach the zero malaria target and other diseases where mosquitos are the carriers or vectors

Small business loans initiative

  1. Facebook India launched its small business loans initiative in partnership with Indifi for disbursing quick loans to young and small businesses advertising on its platform.
  2.  The loans will be processed within five working days if the borrower submits the documents, without requiring any collateral.
  3. The program is offering loans of 500,000 to 50 lakh at an interest rate of 17-20 per cent per annum

Highest Herbal Park

  1. Indiajust got its first ‘highest’ herbal park at Mana in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli
  2. The park, situated at a height of 11000 ft, was inaugurated at Mana Village, which is situated close to the Indo-China border.
  3. It took three years to develop this park under the Central Government’s Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme

Kigali Agreement

  1. India has approved the ratification of the Kigali Agreement to the Montreal Protocol in order to phase down Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
  2. India now requires to reduce its HFCs usage by 80% by 2047.
  3.  China and the US have to achieve the same in 2045 and 2034.

UNITE AWARE platform

  1. India, in collaboration with the UN, launched a technology platform to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers who are operating in an increasingly complex and risky environment across the world.
  2. The launch of the UNITE AWARE platform came as India assumed the Presidency of the 15-nation UN Security Council for the month of August.
