1. 3rd Janaushadi Diwas Celebrations started

News Summary

The 3rd Janaushadhi Diwas 2021 celebrations commenced today. It will be a weeklong celebration starting today ie from 1st March to 7th March 2021. Jan Aushadhi kendras conducted Health Checkup Camps across the country.

  • Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses.
  • PMBJP stores have been set up to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs.
  • Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) is the implementation agency for PMBJP.
  • Savings of approximately Rs. 2500 crores of the common citizens of the country have been achieved by this scheme as these medicines are cheaper by 50% to 90% of the average market price.
  • This scheme is also providing a good source of self-employment with sustainable and regular earnings.

2. Land Ports Authority of India

News Summary

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) celebrated its 9th Foundation Day at its headquarters in New Delhi.

Prelims GS – Internal Security/Governance

  • Land Ports Authority of India is a statutory body established under the Land Ports Authority of India Act, 2010. The provisions of the Act came into force w.e.f., 1st March 2012.
  • LPAI is under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • The vision of LPAI is to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate trade and travel.
  • Section 11 of the Act gives powers to LPAI to develop, sanitize and manage the facilities for cross-border movement of passengers and goods at designated points along the international borders of India.
  • The mission of LPAI is to
    • build land ports on India‘s borders, 
    • provide secure, seamless, and efficient systems for cargo and passenger movement,
    • reduce dwell time and trade transaction costs,
    • promote regional trade and people-to-people contact, and
    • endeavor to imbibe the best international practices.
