1. NGT stays the felling of Coconut trees on Agatti

News Summary

An applicant had moved the tribunal that cutting of Coconut trees on Agatti island to build a beach road not only affects the income of the local residents but also causes environmental disaster. Now, National Green Tribunal has stayed the felling of Coconut trees on Agatti island in Lakshadweep for the purpose of forming a beach road. NGT has constituted a committee to investigate and probe any violation and also asked to assess the quantum of environmental compensation.
