1. New Ministry of Co-Operation

News Summary

In a historic move, a separate ‘Ministry of Co-operation’ has been created by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi Ji Government.

Ministry of Co-operation:
  • A separate ‘Ministry of Co-operation’ has been created by the Government of India for realizing the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’.
  • This ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country.
  • It will help deepen Co-operatives as a true people-based movement reaching upto the grassroots.
  • The Ministry will work to streamline processes for ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable the development of Multi-State Co-operatives (MSCS).

2. Forest Rights Act

News Summary

A “Joint Communication” was signed effective implementation of the Forest Rights Act(FRA), 2006 by Shri R.P. Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), and Shri Anil Kumar Jha, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), in the presence of Minister of Environment, Shri Prakash Javadekar and Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda today in New Delhi.

Scheduled Tribes And Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition Of Forest Rights) Act, 2006:
  • The Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006 recognizes the rights of the forest-dwelling tribal communities and other traditional forest dwellers to forest resources, on which these communities were dependent for a variety of needs, including livelihood, habitation, and other socio-cultural needs.
  • The Act further enjoins upon the Gram Sabha and rights holders the responsibility of conservation and protection of biodiversity, wildlife, forests, adjoining catchment areas, water sources, and other ecologically sensitive areas as well as to stop any destructive practices affecting these resources or cultural and natural heritage of the tribals.
  • The Act empowers the forest dwellers to access and use the forest resources in the manner that they were traditionally accustomed to, to protect, conserve and manage forests, protect forest dwellers from unlawful evictions, and also provides for basic development facilities for the community of forest dwellers to access facilities of education, health, nutrition, infrastructure, etc.
  • FRA act 2006 provides the right of ownership, access to collect, use, and dispose of minor forest produce which has been traditionally collected within or outside village boundaries. (Note: 2019 UPSC Prelims Question)

3. Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Jayanti

News Summary

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Jayanti on 6th July 2021.

Prelims GS – Modern History(Notable persons)

Dr.Syama Prasad Mukherjee:
  • Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee was born on 6th July 1901
  • He was the Minister for Industry and Supply from 1947-1950 during the tenure of PM Shri. Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • He was the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 which is the predecessor to today’s Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).
  • He was the President of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha from 1943 to 1946.
  • Dr. Mookerjee devoted his life to India’s unity and progress. He also distinguished himself as a remarkable scholar and intellectual.
  • He died on 23rd June 1953.

4. Matsya Setu app

News Summary

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Giriraj Singh, launched the Online Course Mobile App “Matsya Setu”.

Prelims GS – Governance

Matsya Setu:
  • Matsya Setu app was launched for the fish farmers.
  • The app was developed by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, with the funding support of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.
  • The online course app aims to disseminate the latest freshwater aquaculture technologies to the aqua farmers of the country.
  • Matsya Setu app has species-wise/ subject-wise self-learning online course modules, where renowned aquaculture experts explain the basic concepts and practical demonstrations on breeding, seed production, and grow-out culture of commercially important fishes like carp, catfish, scampi, mussel, ornamental fish, pearl farming, etc.
