Amidst the recent tensions in Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the talks with China were in a cordial and positive atmosphere and both sides will continue their military and diplomatic engagements to resolve the situations along LAC.

Significance of the Persian Gulf:
  • All these countries have a common feature. i.e. these 8 countries are the major crude oil and natural gas producers.
  • This is the reason why the Persian Gulf is significant geopolitically because all these countries transport crude and natural gas through the Persian Gulf.
  • India’s ties with the Persian Gulf:
    • India maintains a very good bilateral trade with these countries
    • National Oil companies in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi are the partners in the Ratnagiri Oil Refinery of India.
    • Besides this, Saudi Aramco holds a stake in Reliance oil to chemical business
    • These are all the points making us realize the importance of these littoral states (surrounding areas around a water body) of the Persian Gulf.
    • Mainly India imports crude oil from these countries
    • So, the Persian Gulf has a very high significance in Indian perspective
    • India does not get involved in regional disputes happening in these countries
    • Peace, regional stability, freedom of navigation, and access to international markets in terms of trade, technology, and manpower are the necessitation to serve India’s interests.
    • Cooperative security in these littoral states will enhance the stability in the Persian Gulf which is the key to ensure India’s interests being served.
