1. LEADS Index

The LEADS report aims to enhance focus on improving logistics performance across states which is key to improving the country’s trade and reducing transaction costs. The third LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) 2021 report is unveiled.

The Index ranked the states on the basis of their logistics ecosystem while highlighting the key logistics-related challenges faced by the stakeholders and also including suggestive recommendations

Highlights of the Index

  1. Gujarat topped the logistics index chart, a marker of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth.
  2. This is the third year in a row that the state remained on top of the rankings.
  3. Gujarat was followed by Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
  4. Jammu and Kashmir topped the chart among the northeastern states and Himalayan Union territories while Delhi topped among the rest of the Union territories category.
  5. The report also showed that Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were ranked below fifth-placed Maharashtra in that order.
  6. The survey was conducted during May-August this year and the exercise garnered 3,771 responses from 1,405 respondents across the country.

2. Global Drug Policy Index

The inaugural Global Drug Policy Index, released by the Harm Reduction Consortium, ranks Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, the UK, and Australia as the five leading countries on humane and health-driven drug policies.

The five lowest-ranking countries are Brazil, Uganda, Indonesia, Kenya, and Mexico. India’s rank is 18 out of 30 countries

  1. The Index is a data-driven global analysis of drug policies and their implementation.
  2. It is composed of 75 indicators running across five broad dimensions of drug policy: criminal justice, extreme responses, health and harm reduction, access to internationally controlled medicines, and development.
  3. It is a project of the Harm Reduction Consortium
  4. Norway, despite topping the Index, only managed a score of 74/100
  5. And the median score across all 30 countries and dimensions is just 48/100.
  6. India has an overall score of 46/100.
