1. PM eVidya

News Summary

Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed the Digital Education initiatives of the Ministry of Education such as PM e-Vidya.

PM eVidya:
  • PM eVidya is a unique and innovative venture by the Ministry of Education, Government of India to facilitate multi-mode access to digital/online teaching-learning contents of various types among students and teachers.
  • The uniqueness of the PM e-Vidya lies in its comprehensive accessibility for all as it caters the education content to all with its multi-mode set-up of remote learning platforms including the internet, radio, community radio, podcast, and TV.
  • One of the major initiatives of PM eVidya is 12 eVidya TV Channels based on the line of One Class-One Channel for classes 1 to 12 to air educational content related to the respective classes.
  • 12 eVidya DTH channels are especially useful for the learners of those remote areas where stable internet is not available.
  • These channels telecast curriculum-based educational content developed by NCERT and other agencies such as CBSE, KVS, NIOS, Rotary, etc.
  • The video contents have been developed in both Hindi and English medium.

Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, along with her counterpart, the Hon’ble Finance Minister of Bhutan, Mr. Lyonpo Namgay Tshering, jointly launched BHIM–UPI in Bhutan.

  • BHIM is a UPI-based payment interface that allows real-time fund transfer using a single identity like your mobile number or name.
  • Pioneered and developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), BHIM has been conceived and launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi on 30th December 2016 to bring Financial Inclusion to the nation and a digitally empowered society.
  • BHIM is not a wallet. It is a payments application that allows users to make instant bank transfers.
  • People can make direct bank payments to anyone on UPI using their UPI ID or scanning their QR with the BHIM app. People can also request money through the app from a UPI ID.

Significance of BHIM launch in Bhutan:
  • The services of BHIM-UPI that have started in Bhutan are under India’s neighborhood first policy.
  • This launch fulfills the commitment made by the two countries during the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India’s State visit to Bhutan in 2019.
  • The payment infrastructures of the two countries are seamlessly connected and will benefit a large number of tourists and businessmen from India who travel to Bhutan each year.

3. India’s largest solar park to be set up

News Summary

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of NTPC, has received the go-ahead from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to set up a 4750 MW renewable energy park at Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat.

Solar parks:
  • 4750 MW renewable energy park at Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat will be built by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd.
  • This will be India’s largest solar park to be built by the largest power producer in the country.
  • NTPC has also commissioned India’s largest Floating Solar of 10 MW (ac) on the reservoir of Simhadri Thermal Power Plant, Andhra Pradesh. An additional 15 MW (ac) would be commissioned by August 2021.
