1. SITMEX 2020

News Summary

Indian Navy (IN) Ships including indigenously built ASW corvette Kamorta and missile corvette Karmuk participated in the 2nd edition of India, Singapore, and Thailand Trilateral Maritime Exercise SITMEX-20, from 21 to 22 November 20 in the Andaman Sea.

Prelims GS – International Relations

  • SITMEX is a Trilateral Maritime Exercise between Singapore, India, and Thailand.
  • SITMEX was first conducted off Port Blair in 2019.
  • 2020 edition was hosted by the Republic of Singapore Navy.
  • The SITMEX series of exercises are conducted to enhance mutual inter-operability and imbibing best practices between IN, Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), and Royal Thai Navy (RTN).
  • Besides improving inter-operability between the friendly navies, the SITMEX series of exercise also aims to strengthen mutual confidence and develop common understanding and procedures towards enhancing the overall maritime security in the region.

2.G-20 summit in Riyadh

News Summary

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi has thanked Saudi Arabia for hosting G20 Summit in Riyadh successfully and welcomed Italy as it takes over the G20 presidency in 2021.G-20 Leaders’ Summit was held on 21st and 22nd November 2020 virtually.
