1. Project Mausam and its progress

News Summary

Progress of Project Mausam was given by the Minister of State (I/c) of Culture and Tourism, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on 23rd March 2021.

Prelims GS – Governance/Art&Culture

Project Mausam:
  • Project ‘Mausam’ is the initiative of the Ministry of Culture to be implemented by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as the nodal agency with research support of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and National Museum.
  • This project aims to explore the multi-faceted Indian Ocean ‘world’ – collating archaeological and historical research in order to document the diversity of cultural, commercial, and religious interactions in the Indian Ocean.
  • The main objective of the project is to inscribe places and sites identified under Project Mausam as trans-national nominations for inscriptions on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
  • Mausam has now been extended up to 31st March 2023.

News Summary

UNHRC:
  • The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them.
  • It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year.
  • It meets at the UN Office in Geneva.
  • The Council is made up of 47 United Nations Member States which are elected by the UN General Assembly.
  • The Human Rights Council replaced the former United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
